Passive Solar Technologies

What are passive solar technologies?

Passive solar (PS) technologies refer to an approach that substitutes active mechanical systems and traditional energy sources with solar energy technologies. PS techniques employ the steady generation of solar energy through structural designs. The term 'passive' emphasizes that no mechanical equipment is used, only the normal building elements. All solar gains (increase in temperature due to solar radiation) are ensured mostly through windows. Such applications convert solar energy into various types of usable heat. PS can also reduce summer cooling requirements by means of passive cooling.
